Who Are We?

NALS of Maine is part of a professional tri-level, nonunion, nonpartisan, nonsectarian and nonprofit organization, placing emphasis on education. The balance of the organization is composed of NALS, Inc., "NALS", and county chapters throughout the State of Maine. Each local chapter is individually chartered through NALS. Membership is available to individuals even in areas where no local chapter exists. Local chapters hold monthly meetings, combined with guest speakers or programs of particular interest to members. Popular annual programs may include Day in Court, Boss's Night, or various educational social and welfare functions. Currently there are four active chapters in Maine. They are:

Membership is available to those persons engaged as a legal secretary, law office administrator, legal assistant, stenographer, typist, or clerk in any law office, any person employed in the Court, the trust department of banks or trust companies, or in any public or private institution or office directly engaged in work of a legal nature, including the public offices of the United States government, states, cities, counties or municipalities. Associate membership is available to educators, judges and attorneys. Student memberships are available to those attending an accredited program relating to work of a legal nature as a "full time" student. Members support and abide by the Code of Professional Responsibility of the American Bar Association, as well as the NALS Code of Ethics.
